It was a tremendous honour to be part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and to open the badminton session before the semifinals as a former Olympian. Standing on that stage, surrounded by the energy and passion of the world’s best athletes, was a truly special moment. The Games in Paris were a resounding success, showcasing not only world-class competition but also the spirit of unity, resilience, and excellence that define the Olympic movement.
One of the most inspiring aspects of Paris 2024 was witnessing the incredible performances of European athletes. Their dedication, hard work, and perseverance were on full display, and it was particularly rewarding to see so many of them excel on the world’s biggest stage. European badminton continues to grow in strength, and the success of the athletes in Paris is a testament to the investment and commitment of national federations, coaches, and players alike.
Following the Olympics, I had the unique privilege of also opening the first badminton session of the Paralympic Games. This was an equally humbling and inspiring experience, as Paralympic athletes embody the very essence of determination, overcoming challenges and breaking barriers in sport. The growth of para-badminton has been remarkable, and to see these exceptional athletes perform at the highest level was truly unforgettable.
France did an amazing job as did all those who volunteered through the event.
Paris 2024 will be remembered as a milestone for both the Olympic and Paralympic movements, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have played a small part in these historic moments.
